Fonterra Grass Roots Fund wants to help rugby clubs

FonterraGrassRootsFundlogoRugby clubs around New Zealand can get a helping hand from our biggest dairy company.

Each year, the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund helps up to 300 groups in New Zealand, supporting community initiatives through grants to sports clubs, schools and educational groups, charitable trusts and local emergency services.

One rugby club got help this year to buy a compressor to pump up balls for its junior competition and other clubs got support from the Fonterra Grass Roots Fund to pay for team jackets, first aid equipment and even a flax planting project.

Applications for the next round of grants close on 31 August and Fonterra’s Global Sponsorship Manager Kane Silcock is hoping to be able to support even more sports clubs before the end of the year.

“The Fonterra Grass Roots Fund is our way of championing projects and ideas that bring our communities together and make them better, safer, more vibrant places to be,” Mr Silcock says.

Among the initiatives funded this year was new lighting equipment, a tent for shelter during extended callouts, CPR dummies and helmet-mounted torches.

Grants range from $500 to $5000 and projects must fit into one of three categories to be considered for funding: Bringing Communities Together, Caring For Our Environment and Making Our Communities Safer.
